BSA Pack 377 welcomes families from Belmont and surrounding towns with kids (boys and girls) in grades 1-5
Our Cub Scouting program (see program info below) runs from September to June
For organizational and program details, please join us at our Annual Kick off event or any pack meeting.
The Annual Kick-Off Event on the Sunday immediately following the Labor Day holiday from 2:00 - 4:00PM
The annual kick-off is a 'Soda bottle rocket launch' event held at a local park.
You will be able to learn more about cub scouting and get sign-up instructions.
Your (aspiring) cub scout will create a "rocket" out of an empty 2-liter soda bottle, and launch it in the air using water and air pressure.
Everyone is welcome, no registration is needed! We provide all materials to build the rockets and launch them! Bring a towel as your aspiring cub scout (and you) may get wet.
Cub Scouting is an activity for girls and boys that are in grades 1-5.
The Pack has kids from all Belmont Elementary schools.
Our pack is open to all families without regard to color, race, religion, ethnic background, disability, sexual orientation, or economic status. We are an inclusive organization. As scouts, we will do what is morally right.
Our events run from September through early June and more are open to the whole family, although there may be some activities that are only age appropriate for kids of cub scout age. Events include pack meetings, den meetings, at least three community service projects, and optional camping and overnights.
In cub scouting terminology, a Pack consists of all kids in grades 1 through 5. The pack is further divided into Dens for each grade. Each Den has about 6-14 kids. Last year, we had a total of about 35 cubs in our pack.
Girls and boys will officially be in separate Dens (as this is a BSA requirement); however, we expect the dens of the same age group to run many parts of the program together.
1st grade: Tigers
2nd grade: Wolves
3rd grade: Bears
4th grade: Webelos
5th grade: Arrow of Light
The pack operates with the help of all the parents. Please note that this is not a "drop off and pick up" activity. We ask to have a parent or "responsible adult" present at all of our activities and meetings.
We are asking parents to volunteer for a position in the pack and lead a Den or help organize an event. This link shows our organizational structure.
We require that each family signs up for at least 1 "task" or position with the pack. You will be asked to register your preferred role when you sign up.
Our activities will restart in early September, 2024.
We will conduct our regular pack business which will include:
opening ceremony,
recognition awards (for accomplishments achieved)
observances
Annual events such as the Pine Wood Derby race will be held by allowing dens to meet at predetermined times to minimize group size.
All meetings will be carefully planned by the respective den leaders.
Each Den meets about 1x/2x per month to work on their rank requirements, to visit places like the police and fire stations, or to go on (age appropriate) hikes.
We try to do at least three public service events annually.
Fall - Camping at Base Camp, Milton, MA
Spring - Overnight at Plymouth Plantation, Battleship Cove, or another location.
Membership fees for school year 2024-25 will be $250 / scout. This includes BSA membership, the New England Adventure Card, the Pack Meetings, and rank & adventure regalia.
Den activities are extra. This is often a small amount per meeting to cover actual costs (materials, entrance fees, etc.)
Overnights are extra. Costs vary from ~$35 for an adult + cub at New England Base Camp, to $80 per person for some of the externally organized overnights. These events are optional.
You will be required to purchase a cub scout uniform for your cub. Before you do so, please talk to our Pack Leadership to understand which parts are required, and which parts are optional.
In case of documented financial hardship, we may be able to waive part or all of the membership fee on a case by case basis. Please contact the Cubmaster for a confidential consultation.
